No Needles Needed for Dental AnesthesiaThursday, May 5th, 2011, 2:51 pm
Don’t get too excited – dentists don’t have this product in our offices just yet! The idea is really exciting – a product in clinical tests in the US uses a nasal spray instead of a needle to administer local anesthetic. This means that sometime in the future you could have certain dental procedures without your dentist using a needle.
For those patients who are very afraid of needles this might make visiting the dentist for much needed care less stressful. A recent survey showed that 90% of the people questioned would rather opt for a nasal mist anesthetic at the dentist’s and 96% of the dentists said that they would use nasal mist anesthetic if it became available. While we are waiting on this new product I can remind you of the options open to you if visiting the dentist makes you anxious or fearful.
Sedation dentistry allows you to receive the treatment you need while remaining calm and relaxed. There are several options available for our sedation dentistry patients. These range from nitrous oxide (laughing gas) , oral sedation using medication or for more serious cases of anxiety IV sedation may be used.
Whatever level of care you require we are happy to accommodate your needs. Please don’t put off needed care any longer – Because oral health has been linked to the health of so many other systems in the human body keeping your teeth and gums healthy can help you maintain overall better health.
Please contact our Toccoa, Georgia office at 706-886-9439 today to schedule your appointment and to ask any questions you might have about sedation dentistry.
